The gorgeous home was designed by Fabio Fantolino and apart from black and white gray and brown make an appearance in every room. The living area features a plush couch in gray that stands out thanks to the all-white backdrop black side tables and a sleek entertainment unit in wood that barely makes its presence felt.
According to the Examiner this Belgian cottage was turned into a B&B by adding the modern glass living room in the rear of the building. Architects Atelier d’Architecture Bruno and Partners “…introduced steel sheets into the existing structure to create a mezzanine floor; the aim then was to extend these sheets outdoors in order to create a living room enclosed solely in glass which opens out generously into the natural surrounding environment.”
The idea was to design a new structure that reminded the family of the previous cottage while giving it a stylish modern makeover. The remote location of the lot along with a desire to minimize the environmental impact caused by the construction of a new cottage resulted in a structure which was largely crafted off-site.
Reworking the interiors of a loft that was originally built in the early 1990s is definitely a lot easier than having to revamp a home from the Victorian or Georgian era! But that doesn’t mean it’s all smooth sailing and it still takes a few innovative design solutions and a lovely blend of form and functionality to get the job done.
